AI TRANSPARENCY AND USER DISCLOSURE NOTICE

Operated by George Legal Technologies, PBC (“George”, “we”, “our” or “us”)
About This Notice
This Notice explains how George Legal Technologies, PBC (“George”) uses artificial intelligence in the George platform, what the platform does and does not do, and how your information is handled. It is intended to be plain and honest. If you have questions after reading it, contact us at governance@georgeva.com.
George Uses Artificial Intelligence
The George platform uses AI, specifically, a large language model provided by Anthropic (Claude), to help generate procedural guidance based on your inputs. The platform also uses structured decision tree logic designed and maintained by George to keep guidance within the boundaries of Virginia civil procedure.
George does not operate its own AI model. It uses Anthropic’s API within a constrained framework designed to produce procedural guidance only. Anthropic’s model is the engine; George’s decision tree logic and prompt design are the guardrails.
What the Platform Does
•Asks you structured questions about your civil matter.
•Analyzes your responses and any documents you upload to understand your procedural situation.
•Generates a procedural plan — a plain-language description of your options, deadlines, required documents, and next steps under Virginia civil procedure.
•Directs you to court resources, legal aid organizations, or qualified attorneys when your situation requires legal advice or representation.
What the Platform Does Not Do
•Provide legal advice. George is not a law firm and does not practice law. Nothing the platform produces is legal advice.
•Represent you. No attorney-client relationship is created by using the platform.
•Predict outcomes. The platform does not tell you whether you will win or lose.
•Make decisions for you. All procedural decisions remain yours. The platform gives you information to act on, not instructions to follow.
IMPORTANT
The platform’s guidance reflects Virginia law and court rules as of the date the relevant content was last updated. Law changes. Always verify procedural requirements against current court sources or with a qualified attorney before taking action in your case.
How Your Information is Handled
What is collected. Your answers to platform questions; documents you voluntarily upload; optional contact information if you choose to provide it for plan delivery; and technical data (IP address, browser type) for platform security.
What we ask, and what we don’t. George never asks for your Social Security number or financial account numbers. If you choose to check whether you may qualify for free Legal Aid, George will ask a few optional personal questions (for example, income, health, or immigration status) — only with your agreement, only for that purpose, and you can skip them and keep using George. If you upload a document that contains personal information, George processes it only to generate your procedural plan and deletes it when your session ends; automated checks confirm that no uploaded file remains beyond 30 days.
How long it is kept. Your answers and your generated plan are kept for up to 180 days from your last visit, so your case code can bring your session back; they are deleted when your case code expires. Conversation transcripts are kept for up to 180 days for quality checks, then deleted. Uploaded documents are deleted when your session ends. Case codes expire after 180 days of inactivity. Security logs are kept for up to 12 months. George does not maintain long-term personal data records. Once your information is deleted or de-identified, what remains are anonymous statistics, numbers that can no longer be connected to you, such as how many people completed a plan in a month. George publicly commits that it will never try to re-connect those statistics to any person, and requires anyone who receives them to make the same commitment.
Who it is shared with. George does not sell your data. It does not share your data with landlords, courts, opposing parties, or advertisers, except as required by law or legal process. It uses third-party infrastructure providers (cloud hosting, Anthropic API) under written agreements that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes.
Your rights. You have the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal data under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act. Contact governance@georgeva.com to exercise these rights. George will respond within 45 days, with one 45-day extension where reasonably necessary, of which you will be notified within the initial period. If George declines a request, you may appeal; the Privacy Policy describes the full appeal process.
Human Oversight
George’s AI outputs are subject to ongoing human review. The George team reviews platform outputs for accuracy, scope, and compliance with George’s prohibition on providing legal advice. If an output is identified as outside the platform’s intended scope, it is corrected before it can recur.
Questions and Contact
