George™

Justice wears the blindfold.SRLs should not.™

A procedural guidance and legal information platform for pro se litigants.

George uses AI to hold a plain-language conversation with a self-represented litigant, then assembles a plan: what the documents mean, what is due and when, the options that may apply, and the forms that fit. About 25 minutes, from the receipt of a summons to a plan in hand. Built first for evictions in Virginia's general district courts.

The need

Three questions,139,450 times.

What do these documents mean? What happens next, and when? How do the forms work? The same questions are asked over and over. Plain words. Clear steps. Forms that fit. At scale.

In Virginia's general district courts, a case with a lawyer on each side is the exception.1 Legal aid and court personnel answer these questions one litigant at a time, and the math is stacked against them. The answers are legal information, so they can be written once, checked carefully, and given to every SRL who asks. The gap is structural, and so is the answer.

The session

The summons commands.George explains.

A summons is written to compel. George is written to be understood: ordinary words, the right tone, the same law. The command stands. Now it makes sense.

ONE

Guided Conversation

A structured intake captures the facts, in plain language. AI is the conversation interface; it cannot choose what questions to ask.

TWO

Options Interview

Each legal topic that applies gets its own scripted questions. Deterministic, repeatable, and auditable. George isn't a black box.

THREE

The Plan

Human-authored guidance, matched to the facts the SRL confirmed, delivered in plain language.

FOUR

Ask George™

Content- and context-rich Q&A to dig deeper, forms, and a Return Code to come back, with no account and no password.

Platform

Served today.Prepared tonight.

A plain-language conversation. Documents, if the litigant has them. Facts, confirmed.
A summons + 25 minutes + George = a prepared litigant.
On a courthouse kiosk, a waiting room tablet, or the phone already in hand.

Guided Conversation

A structured intake captures the facts. The legal decision tree chooses the questions and AI places them, in plain language. At two points, Read Back shows the litigant what George has recorded and asks them to confirm or correct it.

Phone view of the Guided Conversation with seven answer choices

The court's forms. The litigant's facts.

George steps an SRL through each field of the court's own form and explains it in plain language. Launched from the plan, the form arrives pre-filled with what the SRL already confirmed. The SRL reviews the form and files it. George files nothing with the court.

The plan goes home. George goes with it.

The plan is organized by the questions an SRL asks: how to prepare for court, how the hearing works, the situation and key dates, the options and defenses that may apply, the forms that fit, and how to reach legal aid. It downloads as a PDF or arrives as a link by text, and a Return Code reopens the session with no account and no password.

The George Standard™

Four assurances, one standard.

SRLs are asking AI right now, with or without a standard. This is ours.

Authored GuidanceWritten by humans. Delivered by AI.The law is the source. Humans author the guidance that explains it, in advance, in units called Modules. AI delivers it in conversation.
Confirmed FactsHeard. Checked. Confirmed.George listens for facts, checks them against previous answers and uploaded documents, and reads them back. Only the facts an SRL confirms shape the plan.
Deterministic Personalization™Same facts. Same plan. Every time.A legal decision tree, built from the governing law, matches each SRL's Confirmed Facts to Authored Guidance. Individualized without being improvised.
Engineered Restraint™George stops before advice begins.Options, deadlines and explanations are George's work. Advice is counsel's. The Guard, an independent AI agent, reads every message before an SRL sees it and holds George to that line.
Who George serves

One summons.Every stop.

One summons lands on a kitchen table, an intake desk, a clerk's counter and a bench. George is built for every stop. Choose yours.

Legal Aid, Multiplied.™

Advocate time is the scarcest resource in the system. George extends it, in the ways each program chooses.

Before Intake. On a waiting room tablet or before the intake call, an SRL organizes facts, deadlines and documents. George asks the questions your program specifies. Your program decides eligibility and acceptance.

At the Handoff. When the SRL chooses, the Litigant Record transmits every fact George has gathered, in order. Nothing moves without the SRL's affirmative consent.

Extended Reach. An SRL outside your eligibility or capacity constraints faces the same summons and the same hearing. George offers plain language, clear steps and the forms that fit, and points back to you when appropriate.

A partnership with George is optional, phased and revocable at your program's discretion.

The rulebookcame first.

Governed before launch. Our governance architecture and policy library spans 6 volumes and 25 policies covering everything from data security and VCDPA compliance to privacy and de-identification of user data. Every partner receives access to our governance and compliance register and dashboard.
No litigant pays. No data is sold.Free to every SRL, data is never sold, and records are de-identified 180 days after the last visit. Nothing transfers to legal aid without the SRL’s affirmative consent.
Public Benefit Corporation. That’s what the PBC in our name stands for, and we’re proud of it. We are mission locked by law, it’s in our charter and throughout our policy library. We’re here for good.
Where George stands today.Presently in supervised testing by members of the Virginia Access to Justice Commission. Virginia evictions first, because a home provides family stability. Next is other areas of law. After that, other jurisdictions.
Kept currentOn July 1, 2026, Virginia's nonpayment notice period went from five days to fourteen. George's guidance reflected it before the effective date. Advised byJames J. Sandman, President Emeritus of the Legal Services Corporation. Seats on the advisory board are reserved for Virginia legal aid. AccountableVirginia’s Judicial System does not authorize AI that decides without a human decision-maker, and George is built on the same principle. George decides nothing. A legal decision tree sets the questions, humans write the plan points in advance, and the litigant confirms the facts. The plan explains the options and leaves every decision to the litigant. Behind the platform, a human is always accountable.
